Little over two years after the colourful Abu Gosh restaurant opened in Moscow, an event we talked about in a previous post, a second establishment has opened its doors. Interestingly, the new location in the downtown area of Tverskaya, once again concerns a historic building, and local design and architecture practice Studio Shoo faced the challenge to retain its character while also pairing it with Abu Gosh‘s signature aesthetic. Occupying 127 sqm. (1,367 sq.ft.) set across two floors, the ground floor sees a bold infusion of colour which for the most part is created by the dazzling tile print design by Portuguese designer Elisa Passino which covers the entire floor and the open kitchen’s service counter. Furnishings include a sizeable communal table, smaller tables and chairs, while guests can also make use of the windowsills to sit back. The stairwell is concealed by a wall with two decorative arched windows in bright yellow with matching seating right below. The setting is completed with various forms of shelving, a playful custom-made chandelier crafted from blue pipes, carefully sourced vintage light fixtures and signage on the walls in both Hebrew and Arabic. One floor up, right below the pointed roof, a more tranquil but equally colourful lounge setting can be found in typical Abu Gosh style. A mini amphitheatre makes the space suitable for meetings, lectures and other events. Furnishings are custom-made while a few pieces sourced from the flea market are blended in as well.
